THE UNIVERSITIES

The collaboration between North Carolina A&T State University (NC A&T) and The University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG) was formed to transform  intellectual properties into thriving businesses. This unique joint venture moves scientific discoveries from the lab to the market with the support, workspace, and equipment they need to succeed.

North Carolina A&T State University

A member of the University of North Carolina system, North Carolina A&T State University is ranked third in the system for research funding and is rated as a High Research Activity University by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The University enrolls more than 10,000 students and offers 117 undergraduate degrees, 58 masters degrees and 9 Ph.D. programs.

NC A&T has a strong history of agriculture and engineering translating into leading research areas including:\

  • Bioagriculture and bioengineering
  • Advanced composites and “smart” materials
  • Renewable energy
  • Atmospheric sciences and climate change
  • Computational science and engineering
  • Nanoengineering
  • Supply chain strategy and healthcare logistics

NC A&T is home to a National Science Foundation-sponsored Engineering Research Center (ERC) designed to develop new materials for use in cardiovascular, orthopedic and craniofacial medical procedures.

The University of North Carolina Greensboro

UNCGServing the region as an educational, cultural and economic development leader, The University of North Carolina Greensboro offers more than 100 undergraduate majors, 64 graduate programs, 25 doctoral programs and 42 post-baccalaureate and post-master’s certificates to more than 17,500 on-campus students and over 950 others in distance-learning programs.

At UNCG, researchers are exploring the fundamentals of chronic health conditions:

  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Diabetes
  • Metabolic syndrome
  • Neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s
  • Obesity
  • Osteoporosis
  • Cancer

The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has recognized UNCG with two key research and service designations: High Research Activity and Community Engagement in Curricula and Outreach and Partnerships. UNCG’s technology transfer efforts have produced entrepreneurial ventures that include The Learning Together Company, Thermiacure and Prevention Strategies.

The Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering (JSNN) is an academic collaboration of NC A&T and UNCG. The $64 million project is located at Gateway South. Additional information about the JSNN can be found here.
